A stately chair with great presence.
High flat crest flanked by "cardinal's hat" finials.
Raised, shaped panel. The stiles and rails with conforming molding.
Long patch to inside of one rear leg.
Seat: 19" W X 17-1/2" D X 17" H. Back: 47" h.

Wainscot Chair
English,
1634
Oak.
A large chair of great presence whose exceptional carving outweighs its restorations and loss.
Superbly carved back. The central panel with relief carving of Adam and Eve and dated 1634: above it a winged angel flanked by "WC": below it grape and vine.
The seat rails carved with interlocking lunettes on three sides.
Stretchers, blocks and one leg renewed. Crest rail
Seat: 27" w x 19-1/2" d x 20" h. Back 45-3/4" h.
