Gruel Bowl

English, Mid-18th Century

Ash. A good mid-sized bowl from an English collection (and with an "English" finish). The collector described it as a gruel bowl, but it could have held any liquid or sloppy food! It is simply decorated with two pairs of rings, and has a glowing, well polished surface. Nicely out-of-round with plenty of signs of wear and use. Chips and wear to rim, stable age-cracks, no restoration.

9" diam, 3" h.
